Fracture Evaluation With Pressure Transient Testing in Low-Permeability Gas Reservoirs
نویسنده
چکیده
Introduction The purpose of this paper is to summarize the theoretical background of methods that we have attempted to use to determine formation permeability, fracture length, and fracture conductivity in low-permeability, hydraulically fractured gas reservoirs. This summary is intended to emphasize the major strengths and weaknesses of the methods studied. These characteristics have not always been emphasized in the original literature and, in some cases, have remained obscure to the practicing engineer. The paper also includes examples from 13 wells in which post fracture-treatment pressure buildup surveys have been analyzed in detail. Test analysis methods discussed in the paper include (1) a method applicable only after a pseudoradial flow pattern is developed in the reservoir, (2) a method applicable when linear flow dominates in the reservoir, (3) published type curves, with emphasis on those that include finiteconductivity fractures, (4) a modification of linearflow techniques useful for finite-conductivity fractures, and (5) use of finite-difference reservoir simulators in a history-matching mode.

SPE-168966-MS Modeling Analysis of Transient Pressure and Flow Behavior at Horizontal Wells with Multi-Stage Hydraulic Fractures in Shale Gas Reservoirs
Handling flow through fractured media is critical for transient pressure and flow analysis in shale gas reservoirs, because gas production from such low-permeability formations relies on fractures, from hydraulic fractures and fracture network to various-scaled natural fractures, to provide flow channels for gas flow into producing wells. This study presents a numerical investigation of pressur...
متن کاملPseudo Steady State Gas Flow in Tight Reservoir under Dual Mechanism Flow
Gas reservoirs with low permeability (k<0.1 mD) are among the unconventional reservoirs and are commonly termed as "Tight Gas Reservoirs". In conventional gas reservoirs that have high permeability, the flow of gas is basically controlled by the reservoir permeability and it is calculated using the Darcy equation. In these reservoirs, gas flow due to gas diffusion is ignored compared to Dar...

Unconventional gas reservoirs have shown the potential to be the next world primary energy resource and have received a lot of attention in the past few years in the world. Even with the significant progress that has been made world-wide towards commercial development of natural gas from these unconventional resources, understandings or modeling tools of gas flow in these extremely low-permeabi...

For the characteristics of horizontal fractures in shallow low-permeability oil layers after hydraulic fracturing in multilayer reservoirs, horizontal fractures are taken equivalent to an elliptical cylinder with the reservoir thickness using the equivalent permeability model; then, upon the elliptic seepage theory, the seepage field which has led by a vertical well with horizontal fractures is...
متن کاملIntegrating Short-Term Pressure Buildup Testing and Long-Term Production Data Analysis to Evaluate Hydraulically-Fractured Gas Well Performance
This paper presents an integrated approach for evaluating the post-fracture performance of gas wells completed in tight gas sands. Our technique focuses on a methodology for evaluating the stimulation effectiveness of hydraulically fractured gas wells. Rather than relying on a single evaluation technique, we integrate short-term pressure buildup testing with long-term production data analysis u...
